The new 140hp 1.9 JTD 16V Multijet Turbo Diesel engine is the first in a new family of Common Rail powerplants to be offered by Alfa Romeo.

The engine will initially be offered in 147, 156, and 156 Sportwagon models equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

This is Alfa Romeos second generation of innovative Common Rail diesel engines. The first was the original Unijet Common Rail turbodiesel introduced in 1997 on the 156 JTD. The new engine offers quieter operation during warm up, better fuel consumption, and a 6-7 percent increase in performance when compared with the original.

Compared with convetional diesel engines, Alfa's new powerplant offers an average improvement in performance of 12% together with a 15% reduction in fuel consumption.
